'Petrified wood is hereby designated as the official gem of the state of Washington.' I certainly thought you were joking and I suppose a piece of that, polished and set, would be a great ring's focal point at the right party, lol. Hmmm...maybe at a Growers' Convention, a 2365 in silver would lead to a better table? Ooooohhh...'Matching' 920 Jutras Squash earseeds for a lovely contrast? 'Right this weigh';

It's a drab gemstone even when polished but hey at least I can say I found a heavy gemstone!

My kid was unimpressed, preferring digital minecraft over the real version.

So it was discovered in the area of the Columbia Basin plateau? A lot of volcanoes out the way back in the Miocene days

If you could trade some of that to a villager for a sweet set of armor, your kid would be impressed.

Country- I believe there are Columbia river basalt flows and intrusions nearby where I live, but I live outside the Columbia river basin. So yes and no.

All of SW Washington was affected by the same event that caused the Yellowstone hotspot and flood basalts.

Very cool stuff, didn't know this until I did some quick research. Grab your pickaxe and enjoy your "mining"!

Very cool and what an awesome piece! I used to work on the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers full time radio tracking fish, and I have some pretty cool pieces I have found over the years. I also have some fossilized bison bone.

And lmao Ken
