The seed was from our Howard Dill winner from 2024 (the smallest in the world!). Here it is with the hoops off. Monday, June 1 View Page 150 sq. ft. patch all measured and marked out: 20 ft x 7.5 ft. Lets go! Saturday, June 6 View Page From the other end of the 150 sq ft patch a week later. Having to start pinching our side vines already. Sunday, June 7 View Page The 1133 is filling up the greenhouse. It should be ready to pollinate in a couple weeks. Wednesday, June 17 View Page 10 days later: greenhouse is removed, two females in the tip 15 ft out and a heat wave on the way. Thursday, June 18 View Page Hopefully the "Keeper" on the 150 sq. ft. plant about 5-6 ft. from the end of the patch. Tuesday, June 23 View Page The heat wave zapped the growing tip of the main vine of the 1133. Pollinated it anyway with the 440 Berggren which is growing perpendicular across the bottom end of the patch (pictured). See if it takes. Those are two comfrey plants and a field pumpkin growing outside the 150 sq. ft. patch. Sunday, June 28 View Page 150 sq ft. patch almost full. Tuesday, June 30 View Page The 150 sq. ft. pumpkin has been named "Saka" after the player on the English World Cup soccer/football team. Nice shape and color. Monday, July 6 View Page "Saka" at 15 DAP, growing well. Thursday, July 9 View Page Just a little corner left to fill but the plant has slowed right down now that the fruit growth has taken off. A few zinnias are also growing in the patch. Sunday, July 12 View Page Got a fruit set and set up on the 1133. Here it is at 10 DAP. Not sure if it has a name yet. Thursday, July 16 View Page And here it is at 23 DAP. Had to snap off a rubbery blossom but it looks set to pull through. Saturday, July 18 View Page Blossom site has dried out nicely and we have a name: "Little Johnny Pumpkin Seed". Sunday, July 19 View Page Saka is also growing well; here at 30 DAP. The pumpkin is on a board entirely outside the original rectangle growing area therefore, we have shortened the rectangle by the equivalent square footage to keep the total at 150 sq. ft.
