I think the auctioneer for the club auctions should have a hammer. The hammer Im talking about is something John and Ken can do that a few may have seen....its the "you have been silenced" button. Given the authority by John and Ken, the auctioneer would be able to "silence" offending or incessant chatters or people trying to auction off the lot they just won. If your not serious....dont bid.If you wanna chat--go to another room or IM the person. How about a poll...who thinks the silencer should be given to the auctioneer?........G

You know G. At some auctions, if a bystander makes even so much as a gesture it can be considered a bid. Therefore it is advised to not only stay silent, but to sit on ones hands & avoid eye contact with the auctioneer.

ahh the sweet bliss of silence.. go for it guys! Excess chatter always seems to clutter the auctions and slow them down. Its one thing to come to observe if you arent bidding. Its another to come in and cause confusion and problems.

I'm with G, we need something to stop the chatter. Asking them to PLEASE stop seems do to no good. I have seen at least one person at each auction this yr. win a bid and then back out. That crap needs to stop.It runs the bids up out of the range of the person who really wants the seed/lot. If you want a seed/lot bid on it until you hit your peak amount,and don't wait tell last call to do it. If you don't want the lot don't bid and please respect those that are bidding by not yacking with your friends.

If there is chatter just consider it a $5 increase on the bid. Let people know before the auction that is what will happen.

Some chatter from the grower of the seed being auctioned may be a good thing to help "enlighten" the bidders. Other than that I believe some way to control the back ground noise is an excellent idea, especially when there's 90 to 100 folks at the auction.

Personally I thought last night went very well. Allowing for Stan's miserable server of course! LOL

It was the "chatter" on the 2nd that was so bad.

Some thoughts that might help since the auctions are so popular now.

-Popup window required for viewing prior to actual entry with some "guidelines" regarding protocol & bid process.
-Auctioneers name in color like the "featured chats".
-Keep the "10 second to close" feature, but always offer & *wait* for the last (low) bidder to respond by saying "out". At least 1 person was denied "last look" last night due to a "glich" on his server. Waiting another 10-15 seconds at that point wouldn't have hurt & might have made the association some more money.

Stan did great on the time though. Well done & Thanks!

Lets remember that the chat program was not designed with auctions in mind.

Personally, I think it is up to the auctioneer to set the mood and tempo of the auction. To that end, I thought that Stan did an outstanding job.

You couldn't have a better spot for an auction. Auctions are hard to run in person, this way is even tougher. The ones that I have been in have been run very well and very organized. It takes everyone to make something like this work.

it was my first pumpkin seed auction, i agree on the chatter was out of hand a little. but stan did a hell of a good job to keep it moving.but some of the comments were helpful to me.i think if you have something that will add to the auction then go ahead by all means. speak your mind .anyway i had fun thats half the game..
