Any insight on the correct pH of the carrier water for Florel? Manufacturer's literature suggests a pH of 4 to 5. However, this recommendation is associated with spraying fruits and nuts to inhibit flowering and growth. Florel will naturally lower the pH somewhat. I have not found a direct read on Florel, pH and giant pumpkins. Nor could I find pH being discussed by Matt D. I very well could be missing finding the literature regarding pH.

Ethephon (florel) hydrolyzes (breaks down) in a pH-dependent manner, and is more stable at acidic pHs. According to EPA fact sheet - https://www3.epa.gov/pesticides/chem_search/reg_actions/reregistration/fs_PC-099801_1-Apr-95.pdf (scroll down to section on Enviromental Assessment, p.4) it is stable at pH5 and hence application label recommendations. Please also note that other decomposition produce (besides ethylene) is an irritant and has potential for neurotoxicity. CharlieL
