Any theories or ideas on what causes the "incompletely filled out seeds with the white undeveloped seed coats at the tips? I just pulled the seeds from one of mine and they all were white tipped. I would like to avoid producing those kinds of seeds in the future if possible.

I read once that it had something to with how wet or maybe how dry the season is. Should still be viable.

Seems partially genetic.Possibly a sterility issue. Theres been some great seeds with white tips in the past. Its not something you want but its gonna pop up from time to time since we breed the biggest fruit with the biggest not the prettiest seed with the biggest seed.

I snip my seeds all the weigh around anyway at sprouting and if I have any like this, same deal butt right up to the leaves' edges within, which, if the seed is not snipped, can become stuck together whilst/if rotting. Bummer! I feel that the whitish part is actually food for any SS mix pathogens and the seedling doesn't really 'notice' this trimming, any more than anything else born with a defect. eg

Genetics, maybe the cots and the endosperm are too small for their shell? Different genes could encode for each, resulting in a mismatch in the final result.

For example, I have seeds from a AG x Blue moon cross. The seeds are small and very fat. Blue moons have small seeds, and AGs have big seeds. This would seem to be the reverse of the problem you're describing.
