if you have a fruit that looks to be a bit small on pollination day is it likely to be smaller at the end than one that is larger on pollination day

Ive always wondered this myself.Dont think theres a good way to know. What counts is how many cells that little baby has and how many days that number grows b4 the fruit growth is into enlargement of those cells.Were inclined to think that biggest baby on the plant would be the one to go with but well see tomorrow how big Travis G,s tertiary fruit weighs.

Hey dale, i vote for it doesnt matter. New world record on tertiary vine fruit-small may be the new one to pick.

That fruit has a few days to go yet before anything about it is fully grown. I imagine you've grown bigger fruits than I and your growing arrangement is to be envied but what I do lately is cut away all appendages at the pumpkin stem (tendril, 'Protector Leaf' and attached secondary or tertiary at the pumpkin stem, very closely; All these things can limit your positioning later and the PL may start rubbing against the fruit...never good. Perhaps with your growing surface you don't have worries about rot at the soil level but I hope to never again grow on NO material under the fruit on 'very important' ones. Good Luck! eric g

yes eric it has a couple of days yet cut one off further back small also and both fruit seem to want to stick almost straight up which is awkward with a short stem maybe roll the vine a bit as i did unfortunately put a bit of a kink in the main runner just past it i have a backup plant growing towards it got a while to decide smallmouth all the fruit on it main and sides seem to be the same and yes it would be interesting to see what it does

eric i grow on straw but the pumpkin goes on a geo tech product like 8mm felt stuff on top of form ply which has a hard shiny surface so i can slide the pumpkin whatever way easily by myself till its quite big guessing probably 300lb ish if you put it on young you end up usually with a nice flat bottom and no room for mice though i have found them under the form ply
