I’m wondering if there is a list some where if proven seeds for AG crosses.
I’ve had a bunch of sub par years in a row and only thing I can peg it down to is genetics. Mix of weird plant growth, split vines, fruit pollination and set but no growth, double vines, double flowers and flowers that look male /female cross.
So long story short is there a list of seeds grown with genetics listed for ones to avoid and ones to try. Thanks.

Also - if you've been growing the same seed over and over, it may be time to change things up. But - if you've been growing different seeds, maybe the bad luck has more to do with your soil conditions.

I'm with Andy I would definitely get a good soil test

Last thing you want to do is spend a ton of money on awesome seeds and then have the same issues.

What Andy and Jake said.

It cost money to grow pumpkins? I can't just plant them in the ground and grow 2000 pounds on 50 bucks? ;)

I have seen some bad traits carry through seeds but not those traits, so my suspicion would be the soil nutrients, or a soil contaminants like an herbicide... although an herbicide ought to wash out or degrade within that timeframe. Maybe start with your water or soil ph, and make sure those arent too far off.

What amendments are you adding? I do think going really heavy on rotting stuff (not-fully composted organics) has caused those kind of issues for me but your issue may be different.

Thanks for the feedback. We have quite rich soil but definitely time for a soil test. Also plan on not adding any organics to the soil for next season. Quite a bit in there. Also will make sure I keep a better eye on my genetic selection for next year. Hopefully I’ll get back on track for next year. I just get to wait for weigh off pictures this year.

Hey Ben, it’s Glenn. Go to Richmond Dave’s diary and click on the envelope and send ole Dave a message requesting seeds.

I’ve grown several of Dave’s crosses over the years with great success and I bet he’d be happy to send you some.
