In the future do you think seed auctions will sell clones? Seeing what the Patons did with their 1885 (2907) clone makes me wonder if it could be done.

From country to country is impossible. I dreamed of a clone of the 2907, and so I did it to Stewie in September 2022, so that he could bring it to Spain weigh off.. maybe I gave them the idea of saving a clone. He prepared it for me, when he lost the pumpkin, but ethically, then he told me, that this is not the future of genetics. That genetics we have that you would get growing, and the clone kept it for them. I am happy with your decision, I think the Clones, the best thing is that they make them and cultivate them, the growers themselves. It is the only way to follow genetics. The year I get real genetics, I won't give a clone to anyone... to anyone. The Paton Brothers have marked the way forward, it's better that way.

Imagine that now we were with clones of a world record pumpkin of 2010.. that we would have advanced?' 2500 pounds? Impossible... the clone of the 2907 could get 3000 pounds? Surely.. but maybe some crosses with that 2907 in 10 years will get 4000 pounds. who knows? I think it's possible, but if we follow a clone, it wouldn't be possible

I think clones need to be given a little thought. Last year we had a pumpkin that only a tiny hole stopped it from probably being 3000 I would say that’s unfinished business. On that basis I would clone it and we have. Another good reason might be to produce pollen for the following year from clearly an outstanding line . However if we had all cloned Ronnie’s 2004 right now we would all be growing pumpkins around 2004lb and not pushing 3000lb. 4000lb is absolutely possible but won’t be achieved buy us all grown 2907 clones Stewie

I love the idea of clones. Most growers would certainly cross the clones with other seed plants or clones anyway, so the genetic diversity would continue no different then with just using seeds. As a grower that only has room for 1 plant I would love to grow a clone so I would have a better chance at knowing what to expect from the plant. Like positive attributes that I normally have to just cross my fingers to get.
I vote YES on clone sales and auctions!!! 😄

Victory you say? Master Obi-Wan, not victory. The shroud of the dark side has fallen, begun the clone war has. I just couldn't resist....Imagine clones X clones, getting that cross that didn't happen but should of. Would be an advanced version of swapping flowers that could be global with no distance boundaries.

Even if its too onerous to import them from overseas, I'd be up for using clones. Pick ANY two kins from the previous year, already knowing their exact traits, and cross them? Thats powerful.

Since I don't remember any of that quote (CRS), it all seemed extra-funny to me when the topic switched to 'getting that cross'. I was stunned once when he once simply said 'I agree'. Didn't seem right, even me to. Does anyone else think that genetic mutations would still occur and thereby eventually continue on with the usual, although having started from 'Square One' with the set point of the 2907's Mama? Could be perhaps advantageous, as Master 1 of 2 (no distinction) is perhaps indicating. Perhaps the 2907/1885.5 Lab Clone(s) can be made to last even longer. Just thinking on-screen - eg
