Does it benefit the future size of the pumpkin if the baby pumpkin is not out in the direct sun? Temps are not extreme here at the moment, but if the ground is dry and the vine is in full sun all day, the baby pumpkin could easily be at 90+ degrees for half of the day.
In other words... even though my plant isnt wilting, am I cutting potential pounds off by letting the baby pumpkin get above 90 or so?
I know people shade tips to prevent leaf burn. Does anyone shade the vine tips just to keep the baby pumpkins at optimal temps for cell division???

From when the female first shows up I typically cover it with one of those white lawn chairs with a rock on it, so it doesn't blow over. It gives it some shade and I think it helps with pollinations not aborting. That chair will stay in place until the pumpkin gets too big for it.
