Sad to say Dean Passed away in a car crash at the age of 53.
I nicknamed him Pumpkin Yoda early on.. His knowledge and advise guided many growers over the years..
A Legend in his own mind.. lol Dean helped me along my path to growing regardless of what challenges or what Bill told me to do.
Gone too soon.. This was the year we were tag teaming on the 1st 3K pumpkin.. He had it all figured out, Always the optimist!
So.. Tip one back in memory and be sure to name your kins Dean or Yoda this year..
Happy growing.. Hopefully my tears will be good fertilizer.....

I am so sad - I JUST recently signed in some seeds he sent me from '06
when I was getting requests for my 912.5 that year; They were 1446 Eaton-based and I felt he was 'up to something' with the unique crosses he had made that might one day move my PB forward.
My condolences to you and his other friends and family.

Joe,

This is sad news indeed! I recall back in 2007 at the Delano weigh off, my pumpkin and his were the last two to be weighed. I got my personal best of 1041 lbs. to take 1st place, edging Dean's pumpkin that took 2nd. He said to me afterwards that he was relieved that I had won, being I had a lot of family members there rooting for me. He seemed like he was a one of a kind good guy. Dean may you rest in peace buddy!
