The link below leads to a paper that has an interesting chart showing the reduction affect of different types of tillage on organic matter. I had my patch chiseled this year to provide more oxygen to increase microbial activity leading to a faster reduction of organic matter. As an added benefit this type of tillage exposes insect larvae to cold temperatures and freeze them. According to the chart in the paper one can reduce the concentration of OM by 1740 kg/Hector in 19 days by chisel tilling. Of course that's not 19 days at the current PA temperature but when it warms up it should help. I'm making an attempt to go from 14% to 5-6% . We'll see how long it takes. Anyway, here's the link if you're interested: https://www.fao.org/3/a0100e/a0100e07.htm#:~:text=Burning%20of%20natural%20vegetation%20and%20crop%20residues&text=Burning%20destroys%20the%20litter%20layer,litter%20layer%20are%20also%20eliminated.
