This was my first season ever growing a pumpkin. I made many mistakes, including not starting until the end of July, not properly preparing soil, not culling tertiary vines fast enough, and countless others.
I've been trying to wait as long as possible to cut the fruit from the vine. Three days ago turned out to be the first night freeze in my area. I woke up to sagging, lifeless leaves. They're now all on the ground, along with their stems.
My question: Since the ground still isn't close to frozen, would it be worth leaving fruit on the vine a bit longer to (possibly?) still get some growth from the roots? Or is the death of the leaves the end of any fruit growth?

I realize any meaningful growth is not possible at this point, I'm just looking for every additional Oz I can get. Based on the measurements, a weight calc I found estimates it at 77lbs.

Good job! Realistically, best to bring it inside before the fruit itself gets freeze damaged or rodent damaged.

I'd definitely be reading over winter. Just with what I've read about my mistakes so far, I'm sure next year will be a new ball game.

Starting as late as you did 77lb is pretty darn good! You'll do much better next year if become a "Brain Picker".
