Whole patch? Down the main? Whole patch but pull it back as plant spreads? Will you use it moving forward?

I'm tempted to place it in between the vines next year....at least on one plant.

I tried it last year the plants had problems with disease and burnt vine tips, which other plants didn't.

Burnt vine tips were a problem when I used it a few years ago. I’m thinking about trying white fabric next year.

Thats interesting. It gets rid of the cooling affect of the sun hitting damp soil I guess it either heats the air or drops the humidity too much. Need a fabric that transpires. Maybe a second layer, around the perimeter of the plant-- one that would hold a lot of water.

If you look at Don Crews diary you will see he just poked holes (looks like hose under the fabric) and grew a very big one and I think it was Matt Debacco that pulls it back in a V pattern. MacMillan Giants used white this year.
I think you have to use whatever method your wallet allows you and how many you grow. Certainly keeps the weeds down.

What I am going to do next year is around the same time I get hoops out I will amend and cover my whole patch with a layer or 2 of card board (free). As the plant grows I will remove the card board. It should also help decrease soil compaction.

I used it last year, absolutely loved it. Already purchased it for next season. Only downside is the up front cost and it takes slightly more time to bury vines. For me the positives outweigh the negatives. Others may feel differently.
