This is the first time I have had to worry about cold weather when pollinating . Is there a problem or will it help? it was in the lower 50's all day yesterday and 40's last night.

40 here this morning. I'm going to wait until closer to noon to pollinate.

I had to wait until yesterday for the fruit to open @ 10 am 53 degrees then.

Would the humidity(low or high) be a bigger factor than the 53 degrees?

I think many plants wont pollinate well below upper 50's, maybe slightly higher for pumpkins. And my guess is it needs to be that minimum temp. for a number of hours. The correct amount of time at the correct temperature because the pollen tubes need to grow a certain distance (down into the ovules.)

Both females where open again this morning, I poliinated them again with new males, one of the flowers closed a few hours later [ like when they are pollinated, the other opened wider and the flower drooped wide open. Maybe one took and the other didn't. I have had problems with the heat in the past but never the cold. And Jake, too much information LOL.

The sweet spot for pollinations on pumpkins is 55 to 65. Lower temps like this also have a huge part in cell division which in very important those first couple weeks.
Build some type of hut around the fruit once you've pollinated and keep the fruit inside the hut until you know its taken.
lol Jake! Made me spit coffee out of my mouth! lolololol
