Subject:  Trimming pumpkin secondary vines

I hear some growers trim every other secondary vine on main pumpkin vine on each side of pumpkin vine Does any one do this method and what your thoughts.

No sir,dont do that.keep all the secondaries youve got room for.How long to let the secondaries grow for is a better question.

People do that in a specific style of vines where you make the main vine take a 90 degree turn at the pumpkin and grow towards the side of the patch. All the sidevines that would grow towards the stump they cut because it would just grow into space where there’s already leaves. All the sidevines growing away from the stump they keep

More vines means more leaves which means more roots = bigger pumpkins.

Yes I’ve heard of some growers that experimented with trimming every second secondary to create more airflow and room for the plant, but I don’t know anyone that currently does it since bigger plants with more vines has proven successful.

Grow in the traditional Xmas tree pattern and strive for 8 or more secondaries on each side before setting a pumpkin.
