I seem to remember Willemijns saying something about this. Does anyone remember his comments about not damaging his soil? All I remember for sure is he did not want to use a heavy tractor. I don't remember much more than that, unfortunately.

I read his write up in the SNGPG several years ago, if I remember correctly he makes his own soil sort of like the Paton's. His soil is in many ways just a substrate for roots to grow. (sort of like hydroponics or growing in a soilless media) A nutritionally complete fertilizer is provided through his injection system. He measures the electroconductivity in the leachate and that gives him an idea of where his plant nutrition is. I am sure his techniques are way more nuanced than he could describe in the article, but based on my understanding that is it in a nutshell. I am not sure if any american growers are utilizing similar techniques. The closes comparison that I can find over here is perhaps Steve Geddes who spoonfeeds his plants in his sandy less nutrient loaded soil.
