Just a winter musing. But can a non-giant grower get into the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth Hall of Fame? The GPC keeps records on a multitude of categories like long gourds, field pumpkins, bushel gourd, etc. Can someone get into the Hall of Fame for growing HDs like Norm Gansert, or even someone who makes their fame growing long gourds? I know people have gotten in for their contribution to the sport like Ken D.

But as the GPC broadens the number of categories under there auspices does that broaden the number of people who can get into the GPC Hall of Fame?

Look up the Steve Jepsen Vine of honor on the GPC website.
100% equal to the HOF.

Ian, I don't think it is even close to being in the HOF. I believe the GPC is a great organization with pretty much a total focus on pumpkins. It started that way and still is. There has been little if any attention paid to other vegetables or fruits but I do think that may be changing although not soon. Ask the watermelon guys.

Frank Mudd was inducted last year, and well deserved.

The GPC website has not updated the Hall of Fame entries since 2018. It is understandable why Howard Dill was the first to go in, but he it looks like that he is also the only one without a write-up about his accomplishments.

The Jepsen vine winners have no write-up and no pictures of the winners like the HOF members do. But then again, the GPC is volunteer organization. I am sure that every GPC president has areas of interest that draw a lot of attention. Someone will make the historical section their pet project at some point.

Frank mudd was well deserved not only for his long list of some of the biggest watermelons ever grown and countless top finishes at nearly every gpc contest. But his countless hours of contributing his time and knowledge to anybody that has contacted him. He took me in as a snot nose kid and let me pester him with thousands of questions and he never failed to answer the questions but his intent was to tell growers like me just enough to spark our interest and make us go get our hands dirty and figure out the rest. He fits right in with the rest of the HOF growers because I'm sure they have all done the same throught their career.

Orange you glad> I think you answered your own question.Ken D is in & Frank Mudd. Marv it is a volunteer committee that has really come along ways.Great Newsletters now & all Cindy ROCKS it!.I think giving attention to every single veggie would be a full time job.Thats why we started the GWG back in 2011. You Mater heads need to start a GTG with prize $$ & so on. Lets spread the load to all if its your passion GROW IT> Dont wait on a committee to grow it for you. Just a suggestion in my not so humble fashion.

Ken D. is in the Jepsen vine of honor. I misremembered. He is not in the Hall of Fame. If they are the same thing then why isn't everyone in the Hall of Fame. I mean baseball commissioners and managers are in the baseball hall of fame.

The latest GPC newsletter had a great write-ups on the two new hall of fame members which did not include Frank Mudd. So, I am guessing that he was awarded the Jepsen vine of honor.

I think it will change one day when the master gardener award become the ultimate goal. The interest in that category has really come on strong. I think it would be hard to keep someone out of the hall of fame if they are the Tom Brady of master gardeners.

I did go to the GWG website.
