I am having a horrible time getting my seedlings to grow! I am doing absolutely nothing different than in past years. The seed leaves develop great but the first true leaf gets maybe the size of a pencil eraser and dries up. I start the seed with a heat mat and then put under a grow light once it pops. it's always worked before. I've lost 4 good seeds so far this year, all from different pumpkins. Anyone have any clues why this is happening?

I'm havig a poor time of germinating, but I know part of my problem is temperature control. You can burn up your root and it not show up immediately??? Seems alot of folks with some previous success have been having some issues! BSD, David

milford, CT,

Maybe too wet..??? Also..Once they pop..I like to put them out immediately in sun(indirect ) natural sunlight seems to kick off growth much better than artificial light??

i think i had the same problem. i had them down in the basement in boiler room (80 degrees)and i think it got too dry. i had two do it just a little and they both came out of it and are my two biggest plants. i took them upstairs soon as i saw the leaves curl. then i started some more and it toasted first two leaves when they were tiny because i wasnt watching them as close. they are stunted but grew new leaves. i put a humidifier in there with water in trays and i didnt have it happen again for the next 15 plants i started.

Muddy Waters

To wet or to Dry! its one of the two, when seedlings are small water around stump lightly, maybe a gravy spoonfull or two, then gradually water more each day as it drys out!Small seedlings dont need a bunch oh water, they drown in pot.Dry is even more obvious!
