I've heard of many varied ideas, and methods. However, I soak them for two hours in luke warm water and it seems to work for me.

I've soaked for 8 hours here and had 100% success so far. I put 10ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide in 100ml of water. This year I will put a few drops of seaweed in the water.

I have used Jordan Rivington's method. 10 to 12 hours and have had 100% success!

anyone ever tried letting them sit in the water till they open? Other seeds will do that. Just wondering.

I never soak. It is surprising how little moisture it takes to germinate them.

pumpkin-eater, I would try that experiment on some spare seed first. Some seeds germinate fine underwater, others seem to need more oxygen and will even drown in potting mix with insufficient porosity.
