OK Ruben thank you so much for this post and sharing with others. It is reality we all have encountered over the years. Sad to say and I do feel for you after this season. I have been saying lately to few regarding Paton's season going on this season which have your fingers crossed with any grower of course. Because if I'm not mistaken didn't they lose all their big ones last year? Likewise some growers this season already. Only makes one more determined and dedicated "Wait till next year" like my old friend Al Berard from Maine who sadly passed away use to say. Cheers! Regarding your melon I have no experience sorry.

Thank you Howard, as my wife Anabel says, it's just a hobby. We don't have to worry too much about these things. She knows the hours, days and months we work, but she's right, it's just a hobby. Surely better years will come, that is our wish, we can't do more. We have a winter full of hope, to prepare the soil, the irrigation systems and dream. I am happy with what I achieved years ago, now they are just problems that we have all had for many years, the important thing is to follow our hobby and enjoy the moments in which we are together! See you in Green Bay, Howard? Get me good watermelon seeds from Canada, I would be very happy with that :))

Rmen sorry about your year, I can feel your pain I have been there too. I think it is smart to start growing melons, by growing different giant vegetables you will be diversifying and increasing your odds of getting something to the scale. A certain year might be good for melons and bad for pumpkins, the next might be good for Atlantic Giants and bad for melons. Then you wouldn't have all your eggs in one basket! That is a tough decision about the melon, only you can decide. It might be worth it to go for it, sometimes you get rewarded when you take that risk, other times you don't. YOu could just cut out the water and fertilizers and coast the rest of the way.
