Maybe the streptomyces takes over the soil later in the season and confers antibiotic immunity to the plants. Even if some other organism doesn't do it, the disease has to self regulate... if it was too virulent it would exterminate itself by exterminating its host. Hence, there are lots of hit-and-miss, "subclinical" maladies...

Interesting, I have been wondering about the use of probiotics too, so this year I have drenched a product called "Roots" which probably has a dozen or so different bacterial strains, also I am a believer in 'companion' which is a beneficial root and leaf colonizing bacterial antifungal, antibacgterial.
