I agree with your decision to throw out the seeds and try to get rid of the bad genes causing BES....if that the cause. I also discarded my seeds from my 900 lb BES.

Richmond Dave- I remember "back in the day" when splitters almost had to be planted with growers taking a calculated risk to push the limits. Now there are so many more top tier pumpkins that I think growers need to take it upon themselves to help improve the gene pool. This could be from an awesome cross or it can also help the overall genetics by preventing the continuations of "problems" in following generations. Hard decision to make after planning the cross and making the road trip for the pollen to just toss the seeds away, but I think it is the right thing to do.
