Personally, I'd remove the 'Protector Leaf' immediately adjacent to the fruit, here. It'll possibly keep you from easily adjusting the fruit to perpendicular and you could use a piece of string as 'floss' to do it or, VERY carefully, use a box cutter. Just my nickle's worthless---eric g

Personally, I think its the most important leaf on the plant. Thats the momma leaf! Keep an eye on that leaf, cuz if that leaf isnt happy nobody's happy. Thats how the saying goes...

We always remove the leaf with the pumpkin because that’s the one that will mark the skin off the pumpkin

LK--- The plant doesn't care which leaf or leaves you cut off of it X a few. 'Don't go near left center # 187, either'; I chop off any or 'even' the first true leaf sometimes when planting out or any, ever, that is gonna be a problem. Yay!!! eg

I will remove that leaf once I know it’s my keeper. In the meantime it provides some shade for the baby pumpkin
