I think its like a dead battery its just got nothing left anymore. If the root wont go then as far as I know there's nothing you can do to bring it back to life? But where there's a will there's a way... first you'd have to know what exactly it is that they "run out of" and try to restore that prior to the attempt... hmm.

At least on a couple, try my 'Tip Up' method where you plant the seed upside down and allow about 1/16", just the tip, to protrude. In this way, it'll never be too wet and the seed only 'takes' what it needs to sprout, like an appliance only takes the required current. They DO sprout this way (viable seeds) and it's weird as far as the stem being right AT the surface - keep the SS Mix VERY loose and do it shallowly so you can add more SS Mix to it once it does sprout; At least it may have sprouted and can be worked with. eg

There's the usual: light, humidity and oxygen. Plus being comfortably warm.

It's tedious, but generally I think stripping the seed shells off the embryo will help. Might take a couple days before they will soften enough to come off. Just dont damage the root tip in the process.

Planting root down with white embryo cots up halfway out of the soil will allow the cots to green up early, and maybe begin to produce needed energy?

Thanks for the input fellas. A had another grower suggest removing the seed coat. We’ll see what happens!

Think of it this way - we stick a seed *tip-down* into the medium and basically smother the seed tip by doing so. Please note that one of the most common methods to initiate germination is a moist paper towel in a Zip-Loc and a heating pad, which I have never done butt have used other heat sources to accomplish. Presently, I am replacing seeds that have not sprouted with others to use the same container and SS Mix and even different seeds, carefully labeled - the ones that were no-gos are now *Tip-Up* and the new ones are mostly as well. Ongoing experiment, lol---Good Luck, Dibble! eg
