I think you are right about the water logged soil. Been dealing with the wet soil all winter, my crop looks worse than yours. I bet in the next few weeks it will really take off with more light each day.

Good observation. It'll mess up the nutrient availability if it goes fully saturated/anaerobic. Probably mostly phosphorus and calcium getting locked away from the roots.

Yeah Nature will sort it out for you. Warmer temps, drier soil and more daylight are in the near future for your patch. That rye will grow like heck soon. Just because you guys in California don't get the same cold we do, the sun's strength is still diminished all winter. Without the intense sun everything stagnates. In February the sun really starts gaining intensity and crops will grow again.

Water logged soil can cause this and hopefully that's it. I grew 4 mustard crops this past year off and each crop was better than the last! I did do a peroxide drench after the first one and that crop came up beautiful. I'll be doing one more drench before I start to incorporate all the good guys into the patch.;)
