Just started pollinations today, but it's got me wondering. Do I treat them like Atlantic giants and thin to 1 fruit per or is that a recipe for blowing up fruit?

Ernie, it depends on what your trying to achieve. If you're after the WR then like an Atlantic giant its one only.

I agree with Mark, and if a WR is something you consider out of reach...My best guess is that You should have 1 or 2 back ups going when the pumpkins a older (like DAP 30-55) and these back ups should be smaller than the "chosen one" which is growing at the same time. it just offers insurance by dispersing the energy plus helps them absorb any growth surges, and maybe not split as easy.
I put a lot of escape words like "should, possibly, best guess and maybe" in this reply because you never know for sure what will happen. But the odds may be more in your favor with a few back ups for a while.
