I have two massive field pumpkin plants, at least 300 sq feet each. One 81 wolf and one 97 hunt. How many competition pumpkins each can these plants produce? I have a rapidly growing massive pumpkin on the 81 that is about 25 feet out on the main, do I need to cull the rest? I have several on the 97 hunt, do I need to thin them out? Thanks

Although I haven´t grown many FPs yet, I better leave my opinion here rather than leaving this thread as blank as it had been for the past two days.
In my opinion you can grow two or perhaps three FPs on the same plant at the same time, but this requires a strong plant and the pumpkins should grow on different vines (e.g. one on the main vine and one on one of the first strong secondaries). Also, it could be helpful to have the pollinations of those pumpkins sort of staggered, because the growth of FPs is finished after about 35 days, and the maximum growth falls in the range day 15 ... day 25, and therefore the plant probably could easily put the extra effort (which won´t be needed for fruit growth after the maximum growth is done) into the growth of the next fruit. At least I think that FP plants are as productive as AG plants of the same size (e.g., a 200 sqft plant could perhaps support the production of 10...12 lbs of fruit per day) and if the plant cannot push the growth of a particular fruit any longer (because of the age of this fruit) then the plant should already be capable of pushing the growth of the next fruit to its maximum.

I think Pumpking explained it well. Yes we had two 162's off the 81 Wolf with one on the first secondary and the other on the main. With a plant over 300 sg ft you could support two for sure and possibly three depending on their locations. As Pumpkin said staggered pollinations and different vines is key. All the best

Thank to all who have helped me as a new field pumpkin grower. Would anyone be able to comment on feeding in the last stages of growth? I have maintained my plant within 160sf, buried vines with Pumpkin Power & BioBrow Endo Plus, and have 2 on the main vine and 2 on separate secondaries. 2 of the 4 are pretty good OTT's for August and the plant is looking very strong with loads of leaves. I have been removing additional growth beyond the secondary vines, blossoms and feeding M/W/F - Seaweed, Biomin Calcium, and NutriAid fruit finisher/bloom booster. Beginning in August, I will begin adding Bio-activator for increased nutrient absorption and continue applications of companion as a fungicide control. I am also growing a 685 Janowiak x 1185 Shenoha. I decided to feed the fields the same as the above giant pumpkin (she gets alot more!!)according to Holland's recommendation. If the OTT continues to increase and is not really producing more blossoms, would the 3rd & 4th have to be removed? We are limited to a smaller growing area than Orangeneck.
