Pay the extra money for they PM Resistant Hybrids. We used to buy from Johnny's and Harris. Never had a big enough order for Rupp's. Charisma...Wolf...

How many seeds you need Dean. I've got some magic Lantern, Aladin and Gladiator in the freezer. Quite sure they are all PM resistant. Haven't grown any since I got more serious about AG's.

brotherdave,Linus,
Would these PM resistant hybrids be the kind of pumpkins that I could plant that are low mantainance? What does PM resistant mean? I have a spot on my farm and have been thinking of doing a patch of "regular" pumpkins to let our church youth group sell this fall. I can get them off to a good start but I won't have time to really take care of them proper. I was going to try Howden & Mammoth Gold. Any advice is appreciated.

Somehow you have to control the weeds until the forth of July.

PM resistant does not mean immune. It just doesn't bother them as bad. I like Magic Lantern, it's more of a bush than a full vine and good yield especially with irrigation.

Hank - "PM resistant" means powdery mildew resistant which I imagine is a problem in Virgina since it sure is here in western NY. Linus is correct that weeds (and possibly animals) will be your biggest problem.
Harris also sells Gladiator which is 20-25 lb. and pm resistant variety. I plant 15 acres each year but no longer plant Howden or Mammoth since the new hybrids are better.
