Congratulations Dan, I never thought that tomatoes could get this big when we were growing 6 lb tomatoes years ago.
What seed was this from ?

WIXOM-My 9.44 seed. that's the only seed I grew this year, out of 23 late plants I got 21 WR potential blossoms and 2 mutated ones,I lost all but seven to ber so this is part of the seven.

So are you taking it to a weighoff to make it official? The last I heard the Early Tomato entry ended Sept 30. I recall years ago we had a similar situation happen with Boudyo.

Materdoc, the GPC didn't want to get involved with it since something about a butternut squash episode recently, so no I don't have time nor the desire to go to a weigh off, nordo I want to fuss with going directly to Guinness, if it was my first and only WR maybe then I would, but probably not. This is my 4th WR and maybe a 5th one coming soon. So to answer your question no it will not be officially recorded as a WR with Guinness or the GPC.

Thankfully it doesn't change the fact that it's the biggest tomato ever grown.

Dan, can I maybe help coordinate transportation, if you want to do a GPC entry? I know you are quite a drive from any weigh off... but lets just say where there's a will there may be a way... Elaine might be out your way, on Monday. wsu_brandon@hotmail.com

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone for all the kind words and thoughts!!!! Six years ago when I started I never even thought this was possible, still can't hardly believe it!! Every time I walk by this tomato sitting on my shop bench I'm truly amazed at the size of it,it's almost unbelievable. I find that I really enjoy figuring out how to provide the environment that is conducive to exceptional growth though I can't make the tomato grow one speck, all I can do is give it the conditions that it needs,God does the rest! It's amazing what can happen if we try to mimic nature's way of doing things, get rid of the synthetics and all of the cides and let nature (what God designed) to rule!. I love the challenge ,we've been indoctrinated in our culture to think in terms of NPK and that will never produce a record fruit! I've never even taken a soil sample for my tomato growing ground. I started 23 late plants and had 20 world class blossoms on first truss and ended up losing all but seven to ber and one of the seven was in a 20 gallon grow bag which had a very poor blossom but still made it over 7 lbs, so now I have 4 left that are ripening and one is taping bigger than the 13.99 and the others I can't tape because they are buried in the middle of the plant, so they'll be a surprise.

Dan is this the first time that you tried to grow the tomato on the first truss ? I thought in the past that you always grew higher up the plant !!!

10/6/2022 10:37:36 AM

Dan Sutherland

Walla Walla Wa.

I only grow on 1st truss now,if I don't get a WR potential on first truss the plant goes to the compost bin, that way it free's up space for other vegetables.

I'm glad too hear that Dan, I started to think that no one was doing the first truss meathod anymore !!!

Congrats Dan, can you hit 20 pounds before another grower hits 10 :) , I am curious do you stagger start your plants. Being weighed now, on a 1st truss would have to be a later start.

Bnot-I usually just do 2 start dates because it just takes too much time otherwise. And no I'm not going to hit 20 lbs before someone else hits 10! I'll probably be done growing before I hit 20 lbs!
