I have a tomato that I intended to be ready for the Sept 26 weigh off, but she is starting to turn red now. I believe I read right that once it starts to "flash" that the growth is over?? Should I pick it and put in the refrigerator or how should I store it so it may actually still be good by weigh off? Thanks. Where do I get the form to submit an early entry, and what are the requirements for going that way? Thanks.

Found the early entry info and procedure, I can actually apply on-line so may just go that way. How do I store if I want to wait for the weigh off?

To me three weeks is a longggg time ! In a refrigerator at 50 degrees ? Maybe ? I would get her right up on the board ! Because they lose weight pretty fast ! Prolly not As fast in fridge . Good luck !

Also depends on its condition cracks , splits , if it just started to turn red and is in good shape it can still gain a little weight ! Still have a few more days . Then bring it to the certified scale , and get her up on the board . Stressful and fun all at the same time . Have a good weekend ! Oh yea ps easy on the water .

Wrap in news paper...60% red without cracks will last for weeks...no prob to store now for end of month weigh-off.

I am with Porkchop on this but I would put it in the refrigerator as well.

When I have stored tomatoes at around 55 degrees I found that they generally would lose .02 pounds per day.
