How big is big, when it comes to fused blooms? I've seen some massive blooms online. Ive noticed they tend to look a little messy once they get really mega. Does everyone try to hand pollinate to improve fruit take and shape? is there such a thing as too mega?

I think there is a risk of too much mega. We don’t help them pollinate other than slapping the stakes once in awhile. The big nasty ones are exciting but never amount to too much here...( if 4-5 lbers isn’t amounting too much). Our biggest have always come from the plump 2-4 fused that pop open quick and get growing.

Keep it coming porkchop. . . I think the big cobra looking ones probably contain lots of potential... how else are you going to hit ten pounds... But you gotta follow porks advice about when to prune and not burning the plant up with too much fertilizer... Some of those balloon blooms. . . are hard to fully inflate. Plant needs big lungs to do so. I think think the balanced - not excessive - fertilizing and prunning at the right time is advice that should be listened to. Some lucky person will get their plant to correctly push one of those bigger megas... Hope its one of you guys.

I agree I would choose a cluster over a ribbon but who knows I am keeping my mind open because I think no one really knows yet what kind of blossom it will take to hit 10-12 lb.

Giant megablooms are tricky ? You need to have a giant mega to be balanced meaning that the entire flower blooms at once and the new tomato grows evenly all around. But many megas may open on one side one day and take 2 or 3 days for the otherside to open and those usually don't develop evenly one side can grow fast and the other side lags way behind and those never amount to much over 3 lbs.the long catipilar type are the same way you wont a ballanced growing tomato an be careful that its not seperated were you have a flower divide into 2 or 3 seperate tomatoes on that flower.

Thanks guys, good advice. I have posted a photo in my grow-log of the biggest bloom I have currently. It seems like a big messy bloom. Its low but I'd like to see how it grows out, Ive been taking photos to keep log of its development. 3 out of four plants have large fused blooms. Im enjoying watching them grow. this first grow for me is more just a learning process. Ive been really enjoying it.

G. Kins I'm in Brisbane so my temps are ok through winter temps between 55 and 75f. My soil isn't up to spec yet and I'm winging it but I'm hoping I'll get a couple to ripen so I have a PB to beat in the future. Got to have a learner grow to make some mistakes and work out what works for my climate.

I have a dumb beginner question, do most all of tyhe giant tomato plants produce some megabuds, or is it something special to get a megabud? Do you do something special to create megabud? Trying a grow this year and don't know shit about it.

Nothing special other than growing healthy rock star plants. These varieties are chosen because of the blossoms they produce. Some bloom better than others. Domingos throw great blossoms all year for us . You can get them to do crazy by pumping bloom food to get bigger blossoms but could bite you in the rear when it comes time to building size. It’s all a balancing act. Good luck!!
