What is the plan when just one section of a multi fused blossom begins to ripen? When is the time to weigh?

I've had similar with doubles and then something pulls away from the stem. One section ripens early (and in that case, the bit near the stem continues to grow).

I think you just have to weight by checking on the ripe section and letting that ripen as much much as you dare - giving the rest of the fruit as long as possible to catch up.

Generally tho, in the cases where you get one section ripening, you're going to be pulling slightly short of what that the max for that tomato would have been had they all ripened evenly.

I am impressed 18 inches. Hoping to see a good final number. You are definitely going to make it to 3rd highest of the all time winter growers. If you can get over 2.51 you will be second. I am excited for next year. Great job, I hope you continue the winter endeavors for a long time.

The best part about the winter grow is how much I have learned about the tomato plant. Being in control of all the variables forced me to seek an understanding of what was happening and why. Being able to examine the plant from all angles, pick it up and put it on the benchtop almost daily, and observe every bit of it. Seeing the blossoms up close, how the trusses form and vegetation continues, leaves etc. I know so much more about what to expect and how to handle whatever goes on. I am gonna grow a couple thunderbombs for sure this year. Thank you all and especially to bnot and Wixom for all of the help this winter.

Orangeneck , this is so important, as you know from the pumpkins...to know exactly what’s coming next so you can stay on top of the plant management...learning when the trusses come, side vines and which ones become less dominant. It’s hard because they grow so dam slow but once you know what’s coming, it makes it a lot easier to spot a good one. I hope you are thinking BIG BIG this season. Because you should...you can do this. Best of luck..I bet there will be a few bombs dropped in PA this season!!
