Hi folks,
Can I confirm the largest Big Zacs grown are something like - 8.61 Sutherland, 8.41 MacCoy, 8.36 Boudyo, 7.66 Hill?
I had a go at making some crosses last year - it was successful, but plants got blight as did the fruits before seeds formed so I'm intending to make some new crosses this year.
So far I have and could cross various combinations of:
9.44 lbs Porkchop (Domingo) 8.07 lb Daho 2018 (MegaMarv) 7.66 Hill (Big Zac)
Into initial MegaDom, MegaZac, BigMarley type crosses.
Are 8.61 Sutherland seeds are occasionally still about? I know that seed from there doesn't always get out much. I think Wixoms crosses were with the 8.41 originally - the Hill which I have might be the fall back plan tho.
Thanks folks! Hope planning is going well.

I thought the 8.07 Daho was a bigzac not a megamarv ?
Yeah you probably wont get any Sutherland seeds they were only at auctions and i don't think their are many if any left ? You probably have the best seeds available at each veriety. Good luck

I know, i know - tho it was just the numbers part i managed to recall incorrectly! No edit functions here tho.
The Daho is listed incorrectly on the GPC listings as a Big Zac, Mendi's diary entries the following year gave the full history of the seed and grow:
http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryView.asp?season=2019&grower=52840&action=L
And the Daho 8.07 turns out to be an F3 of selection out of a deliberate MegaMarv x MegaMarv cross (5.51 MegaMarv X 5.05 Fulk - from research, another megamarv it seems).
I grew the parent seed last year (the f2 i think) - 4.22 Daho and it was a tank of a plant:

Ok i always thought that it didn't look like a bigzac when i fist seen it ? That make alot of sence i think the megamarv is a more agressive plant than any other veriety.

That's correct mate. Megamarv are very vigourous and strong. In 2019, off the 8.07, I had about 6 or 7 huge megablooms even bigger than the 8.07 flower itself but they all aborted cos of the high temps ( 40°C outside and 49°C inside the polytunnel ) One of them was 4" wide, never seen a such big megabloom before. On another 8.07 plant, I didn't cut any fruits at all and picked up a 4.75lb, they were about a dozen of good tomatoes on that plant.
