Internet says tomatoes dont need it but I got good and fast germination w/ just throwing some newly dried seeds in the freezer. Usually mine take 4-5 days... Rarely 3. The ones that spent a couple days in the freezer were all up in 3 days. It certainly didnt hurt them.

Could it also be that the seed is super fresh and viable, even without the cold? Could try as a control experiment (you may have already done so)

Yeah... the second pot seems just a bit slower half a day behind they are up too now. So being fresh is good. I agree... Seems each year of storage can add up to a day of delay.

I think Doug is right. I took seeds from a tomato last year and sprouted them in water 3 days after they had been removed from the tomato. Tomato to seed to seedling in a week.
