I have a ZacHeart plant still kicking in the garden. There are 3 big ones that have pollinated and are still growing. Probably been there since August ? Still green as the grass. How long before the seeds are viable ?
Must say that the plant has surprised me. All other plants contracted blight toward the end and withered, but the ZacHeart is still green and producing blossoms. I see some signs of blight, but overall the plant seems healthy. We’ve had a coupl of near frosts here and I would like to pull the tomatoes before a hard one.

The seed from the original Russian Oxheart originated from a friend of mine from Russia. They were grown in a colder part of Russia in her family circles for generations. I've noticed this Oxheart does better in the earliest part of the summer when it is not so hot and is the earliest producer. With the cross of the Big Zac I've noticed the ZacHearts have more of the Oxheart characteristics. They were the first tomatoes pulled from the garden because they produced their big tomato the earliest so I don't know how they would of done with the colder weather but I predict that they would of fared better. Even so, they may need some heat to finish ripening. Picky things.
I've always considered the first sign of blushing as when the seeds were done and viable. I'd keep them covered on the vine as long as possible if you could until colder weather. Then pick them and bring them in the house until they turn pink.

Thanks Rebel. There is nothing big on there. 1-2 might end up a pound. Mainly interested in getting seeds for practice germination. Although the thought of a nice BLT in winter is nice. Have you noticed any blight resistance in the ZacHeart Rebel ?

No, not really. Not like the Domingo, Megazac variety which have the most resistance compared to Big Zac's or the Zachearts.

That’s odd. I had Domingos,Big Zac,and MegaDom all growing alongside the ZacHeart. They all withered up. Anyway, thanks for the advice ! Can’t wait to try out the Big Marley next year !
