Same thing happened to one of mine this year too. I think it may have been from sunscald, then turned into rotting.

No this is in areas that havent seen the sun. On the bottom or sides ? I get one or two do this every year but i have had 5 this week !!! Lucky most were only 3 pounders but the other two were 4.5 and 5 lbs those bite !!!

Its like a segment of the tomatoe just gets an internal bacteria or something and it turns into a watery smelly rot ???

I've had this too....
Really weird? I have bumped my calcium at haven't seen it this year but who knows.. It can start happening any day.
Yes, it does look like some type of bactiera Chris.

In the last couple of years I watered more and had about 1/3rd tomatoes with BER. This year only water about 1x every 10 days. I mean we have zero rain all summer and I can control the watering. With the rain you may of had do you think its water induced?

It usually happens after a good rain. And to tomatoes over 2 lbs never to a small tomato like BER...

I have never had this happen to my eating tomatoes ? Just competition tomatoes ???

Could it be that the eating ones are disease resistant varieties ?

Hard to say ? It's like when you get a good rain you can get a surge of growth or i can get this ??? Its like a water intake overload ???

Its kind of like a late season unexplained soft spot that develops on a pumpkin !!!

This was the same thing that took down my 5.95 domingo. It took out 2 cavities !!! But the rest of the tomato stays solid !!! It clearly did not infect the seeds.

In many cases i can see the infection develope off an old tiny injury like a healed scratch or something but not always.
