I am going to take break...who else is going to get measurements of the 9.44. Not just circumference...need the 3 way measurements..and mfactor. In case anyone was wondering...his 8.48 had the measurements 29x28x19.25 for an mFactor of .00054. What he considered low was a number I would consider high. He attributed it to a hollow spot in the tomato. Maybe you should try to email him mike.

... I could not find any info about a three number measurement system. What dimensions are those numbers are measuring please...

I am not good at explaining the concept. When I have more time will try to draw a picture. Think of the OTT measurement on a pumpkin. Instead the End to End and the Side to Side measurement stopping at the ground go all around the tomato. This is where measurement of a tomato is different from a pumpkin. Instead of adding the numbers..multiply them. The result time the mFactor = weight. If you can estimate your mFactor then you can get a better guess of how big a tomato on the vine is.

To figure out the mFactor if you know the weights use this formula mFactor=weight/(M1xM2xM3)
Dan and myself have been dropping the decimal and just using the digits..for example he says the mFactor of the 8.48 is 54.

After the this thread was made..I received an email from Dan with the measurements of the 9.44

They are:

31.75 x 21.75 x 23.5 for an Mfactor of 58

very good density number for a domingo. Dan does grow them dense.

Not to far off on a circumstance chart. Marv's chart if extended 31.75 would have had him around 8.75 lbs.

18"=2 lbs.
20"=3 lbs.
22"=4 lbs.
24"=5 lbs.
26"=6 lbs.
28"=7 lbs.
30"=8 lbs.
32"=9 lbs.
34"=10 lbs.

Its only a general chart because only the circumstance can't pick up how flat or round a tomato is and of course the bigger a tomato gets the 2" ratio= 1 lb. Is going to change too. But i think that this chart is still a good indicater of where your tomato is at before calling your gpc rep to come out !!!

28x 28x28 would be a ten pounder... Any measurement over 30 would probably be worth a call

I am not sure what the highest mfactor I have seen...i am thinking it is about 65. So if your three way measure multiples to about 14000 and you hit the super high mfactor..you will break the WR. My mfactor is usually around 47. Dan's multiplied out to a bit over 16000.

The important thing about contacting the GPC is not to wait until it is over the WR. If you have one growing that conceivably could get there,if you contact the GPC..they can keep checking with you to see how close it is getting. 20" is probably too early...36' is probably too late. Have to balance giving the gpc enough time to prepare with not bothering them too much. They have lives too.

If in doubt...contact one of the experienced tomato growers. They can advise you based on size, age of set and current rate of growth.

I think that if your in the 27" area and it still has time to grow, that it may be time to give them some notice !
