I am just wondering if it is important to Mulch these big boys. From the photos it doesn't look like much is going on.

Leaf compost. Keeps soil from getting too hot, holds moisture in and sharply reduces weeds. Wheat straw is good but leaf compost is free as I make it myself.

I like ground up leaf compost.it keeps the soil moist weed free and the worms love it.

My only problem is i only had enough to do my peppers this year !!! I wish that i could do my entire garden !!!
