If you were allowed to grow only one tomato seed, what would it be? I tend to favor a Big Zac offspring, probably one from the Boudyo line, most likely the 5.07. Your choice?

very difficult choice... Boudyo had some really good ones...5.07,5.03,5.85 I miss him growing. What an awesome contribution to todays genetics that he made.
I also like the Hunt Delicious strains...aahh..just looked..the 7.33 has reappeared on tomato.giantstogrow.com
and I love the new crosses..wixom has made winners..
but if I could only choose one to grow...it would one from 2 years from now

I really like the 4.57 MacCoy But might have to go with the 5.07 boudyo. The 5.03 boudyo is a great seed too. I'm excited to plant all three of these this year!

do you know what the origin of your 4.57 is Dan...my current favorite is descended a few generations from it. It seems like it really responds differently to nutrient levels than a tomato descended from your 6.88 (5.03 Boudyo line). Both big zac but definate differences of nutrient strengths preferred.

Good question Marv. A year or so ago I penned out what I thought was a good seed line. To me the 5.07 Boudyo was like the 2009 Wallace AG. It has contributed to seed lines that are part of the largest tomatoes today. That includes the 6.83 Boudyo which produced the 7.10 Foss. The 7.10 Foss would be my seed of choice. It has produced: 7.19 LaRue, 6.52 LaRue, and my 6.06 Spaziani. I have held each one of these tomato's so I am biased towards the 7.10 Foss. My 2nd choice would be the 6.88 MacCoy. It has consistently grown large. And third, the unproven and best looking tomato ever, the 8.22 Steve Marley (Porkchop), just out of the pure excitement of growing it.

Oh yea,I forgot the 5.85 boudyo too. The 4.57 is a direct descendant of the 5.07 boudyo

The megazac cross is 5.51 megamarv X 8.41 MacCoy bigzac. The megazac plant is more agressive and the megablooms are similar or larger than the bigzac and easyer to pollinate. I have grown with the megazac 6.23 6.13 5.78 5.52 5.32 Kevin fortey grew a pb 5.76 I haven't grown a big zac over 4 lb yet. ??? Same with the domingo. My 5.95 was on day 29 when i had to cut out about 6 oz. So it was more like 6.4 lb when it whent down. It actually was growing faster than porkchops 8.22 when it went down.

I will agree with 6.23. With the megazac..you are going to see much taller plants than you will with a Big Zac. It seems that a bit better blight resistance. Last year the 6.23's performed much better than 6.13's I had growing. This is still a really low F number..so next generations will show much variability.

There will some great tomato seeds in a up coming this Wednesday for you to buy for your sweetheart or your sweetheart to buy for you. This sweetheart auction will have several lots with the 7.10 and 7.19 LaRue plus many others. I think the 7.10 is only the tomato over 7.O to grow a larger tomato than itself. Pass it on we need your support to continue with a large tomato payout at the UMGPG weighoff.

I’ve planted 2 of each 6.23 and 6.13. Both were tall but I’ve never really had much luck with either. I’m going to chalk that up to grower error. Wixom made a good point. Does soil ph difference make that much difference?
