Of all the plants I grew last summer, this is the one seed that I think has the most potential. I am thinking that the ribbon is not all genetics. I did a reservoir change right before it was starting to form it first truss cluster. The solution went from a mild starter solution to something that I would consider a strong finish level. The plants that had already formed blossoms did not react very much. This one did.
I have been experimenting with this on soil plants too. I think the nutrient blast could have value. The problem is I have been killing plants trying to find the right number.

If you can carry that 4.38 thru the winter,I think you will definitely have an entry.
Once you figure out your nutrient solution,I think you should share it with everyone.

I haven't gotten sunburn yet..but I haven't pulled out my secret lights. I have 8 t5 24 watt UV/b single bulb lights waiting for if they are needed. Last year I used them when I was getting intumescence on the top of my leaves. With all of those going I could get suntan quick. If I had to compare the growing qualities of my LED's vs Ceramic Metal Halide I would have to rate them about the same. As stated in previous posts..i prefer the Ceramic Metal Halide for the main reason, they are just so much more enjoyable to work under. Usually if i am working on the LED plants, I will turn off the LED's and just leave the CMH on. Natural light is good for this grower. I don't think the plants care. James, I hope those seeds all grow good for you. Good luck and hope you set a new PB this year. Post some pictures of your progress.

Nah....it isn't a black van. It is a white van. I think it has written on the side something like "Federal Plumbing...we fix all the bad problems". I am sure they have done their due diligence and tapped my internet connection. Obviously..since i am using double to triple the electricity of my neighbors and spend many hours per week surfing medicinal plant growing sites (these are the absolute best indoor growers in the nation) , that I am up to no good. I just hope when they get their search warrant that they don't knock down my door and shoot my dog. I will gladly show them my tomatoes and now green pepper plants. If they wait until January...I can show them a hydro carrot and maybe some onions. I don't need stealth packaging on my deliveries...people can grow for fun.

I checked tomato.giantstogrow.com . Looks like they never got the info for the 4.38 from the weigh off. I updated it to show its lineage. It is a big zac variety grown from the 6.79 Sutherland which is two generations from McCoys 8.41. I am not sure how many sections are fused. I am guessing at least 7 or 8. I do know that all sections are connected. I really wish this one was outside. The foliage on this plant looks really bad. Hoping the plant will like todays nutrient change. I am going to be a nervous wreck trying to keep this one growing.

If anyone has any suggestions of what I should be doing, i would love to hear them.

A bit more info on the 4.38. It was grown in shade in a 40 gallon pot on the patio next to my house. When blight was taking down the rest of my tomatoes, the 4.38 was not affected. I know these genetics will be in my garden next summer.

Im starting to wonder what is more important at growing a giant megabloom ? Genetics or extream feeding ? I know both are important, but i. Dont think their is any way that could get a large megabloom indoors if i tried no matter what the genetics are. So maybe extream feeding is just as important at developing giant megablooms as genetics ?

I have to agree with Rebel.
I joke about bnot being a “mad scientist”,but I think he is really breaking new ground.
The diary entries are great,and I’ve learned a lot about hydroponic and aeroponic growing just from reading.
I’m going to say it won’t be long before we see significant weight gains in the Borges line of giant tomatoes.
Go get em bnot !

wixom...my experimenting has been with an extreme nutrient charge right before it forms first blossom. It appears that an extreme blast (super high P and K) will cause a ribbon and super mega. I had this result on 3/4 plant experiments. The downside...foliage is trashed. After the level of blast I have been giving the plants..all new growth is deformed. The super mega ribbon is not a help, if the plant cant survive. This might be easier to achieve with hydro..can dump a nutrient solution and replace it a lot easier than can flush and recharge soil. Much more experimentation is needed to make this a practical growing technique. I am thinking that maybe a blast to cause the ribbon super mega..followed within a few days of recovery solution. It is going to take many more sacrificial plants to get a better idea of what works best.

Oh no Bnot,I feel your pain when you discovered those nasty brown specks forming, I had more than my share this year,I did have a few that survived but I should have just removed them and added them to the compost pile.

bnot is making the Winter a bit more interesting. He is definitely a Traulblazer. His hydroponic expertise is far beyond anyone I know. Not many growers in my neck of the woods do anything hydroponically. I am thinking about how I can utilize some of this information in my garden. I have tried growing tomatoes in pots during the summer. Maybe I need to try again using some of the information bnot is passing on when I am watering and fertilizing my plants and particularly those in pots. With some of the new pruning techniques it is easier to grow in pots as the plants are much smaller. I am wondering about starting a plant hydroponically and then finishing it in a pot?

I haven't given up yet on it Dan. While waiting for the grow store to open, I ran a flush cycle on the plant. Now, that my shopping is done, I have it in it in a separate bucket, with its own chiller. I put in fresh liquid nutrient solution mixed to a ratio of about NPK 1-2-3 +1 ca .25 mg at an EC of 3.0 From brown specks to recovery there is a good chance for success. If i get the black smear it will probably be over. Marv, you helped me earlier with nutrient questions. I gave the commercial formula a try...the problem was the powder would dissolve..i would get a TDS and PH reading, then 4 hours later...it would start to form floating crystals and the TDS and PH numbers would change much. I have gone back to liquid..mixing three different companies products to get the numbers I want. These may not be the right numbers..but at least, I can give the plants what I think is best.
