I doubt anyone will ever get over 4 pounds with a true single blossom tomato. The problem will be certifying that the tomato is truly from one blossom.

Domingo seems to be rather distinctive among large-fruited varieties. Judging from the appearance of the pedicles and the blossom scars of the larger fruits, it appears to me that we may be looking at a phenomenon of tightly fused blossoms. That is, early in flower development, several ovaries seem to fuse relatively completely, resulting in a single stigma. Then the fruits develop into rather "normal" looking fruits, with little lobing. However, the larger fruits usually have pronounced stitching on the blossom end, as well as some bumps and irregularities which indicate tight fusing likely occurred.
See picture of my largest tomato (Domingo) from 2017 in my recent diary for an example.
But I think it would take someone with a lot of patience and a good microscope to do the investigation to confirm this, as Marv suggests.
With Domingo now at 8.22 lbs. (!!!), I think it's a prime candidate for continued crossing with Big Zac and others that produce pronounced megablooms. Ten pounds here we come!
I agree that trialing different varieties should be an effective strategy for injecting some additional DNA into the efforts to grow bigger tomatoes. I've attempted to do this with dozens of varieties over the past few years, but just don't have the resources to do justice to so many promising varieties.

You don't mean that white kind of jacket with the long wrap-around straps do you? I heard they're coming into fashion - I keep up the madness here at BP and I'll get my own custom-fit one free of charge; then I'll finally feel like I mis-fit in!

you don't even need the microscope in the garden..I have mine on my desk...my wife really rolled her eyes when i told her i was trying to tell the difference between glandular and non-glandular trichomes from the prunings from my tomato plants. At this point...I think she is beyond the jacket...padded room, as long as it contains grow lights will keep me content.
