The beauty is in the number on the scale. Actually there is beauty in the complex shapes of these fruits if you have grown one of these yourself. But of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Although I have never grown one to any size, I can see both sides of this conundrum!! They are ugly/beautiful...depending if you are looking from the I don't/can't grow them, or the...I just grew a 7# tomato side of the goggles. Personally, I think the oddness of shapes that they come in is part of the greatness!!! Congrats to all that make this madness happen! Peace, Wayne

Hopefully your old enough to have heard the saying (Beauty is only skin deep). It is a free country you don't need to get it.

I agree Don and Jeanne - something is wrong with this group of tomato growers - I don't know who could take such joy in growing these nasty looking things - These people should be locked up - Good day - I need to go take my pug for a walk

Q Tip, I agree. Don't bring no ugly tomato to Gale Woods. Anything over 4 pounds is ugly.

We need to name the beauty prize for the best looking tomato. Howard Dill is for pumpkins. We have nine days to come up with an award for most beautiful tomato at Gale Woods. I will email Tom McDowell tonight and see if I can get him on board for the first ever beauty tomato award. So far every tomato I have weighed for early tomato none of the witnesses said they would be willing to eat it.

Bob, Will a small tomato be eligible for the beauty contest. For instance could someone win with an Early Girl or a Better Boy tomato? Something to consider.

Since I grew the first 8-pounder can it be the Dan MacCoy award!:) If pork chop gets 9 pounds it can be the Porker award!

I sent an email to Tom....usually he gets back to me in about a day. I suggested that an exhibition tomato could be eligible for a beauty award. That way someone could bring their biggest ugly, and a smaller beauty and still have a chance. How to determine the award...I suggested that this year the weighoff organizer could choose. That would be Tom. Trying to get this going on short notice is difficult..but I think there is a good chance that there will be a tomato beauty prize this year at Gale Woods. You better decide what is you best looking one Doug and bring it in. Let's wing it...any other ideas for what to name this award?
