Ok everyone who is in this message board forums. I have got a good idea for the 2018 growing season. And I know some of you are on Facebook also and saw the post on the 2 groups I just posted and yes I got a reply from marv. And the list of varieties I'm going to be be creating a new giant tomato crosses
Big zac x Cherokee purple, big rainbow x pink ponderosa, golden ponderosa x delicious, mega marv x yellow mortgage lifter or with pink giant Belgium or pink ponderosa. And if I'm successful with this. I'm gonna ask 3 or 6 giant tomato growers to see if they can dehybridized the f1 ( hybrid ) for it to be open pollinated for future giant tomato growers. Good luck cross polinating is much harder to do outdoors. You must cover the flower so no insects can get to it, you must cut off the anther cone before it fully opens or the pollen will shake off and self pollinate just from the wind !!! Can be done but I like to do it indoors because I have much more control over pollination.

The real problem is that after you go beyond F1 of the cross, the seeds have great variability and it takes selection of characteristics from many plant and 5 or more years before the seed is stable.

Part of the fun, at least for me anyway, is not knowing what you are going to get. That's why I'm like Chris's crosses. I am too impatient to wait 5 years, at least for giants. MegaMutt rules! Now for eating maters I want stable seeds and tomatoes. I want to know all my eaters will be the same.
