I wouldn't give up on those sad looking plants,I think they will recover and be ahead of what you might start from seed now,they've already got the root system developed, good luck.

I havent given up on those plants just yet. I dont know where they might get a growing tip from, since all that is left is stems. If they survive, I will have a lot of room for them to grow. Am also trying today to start about 70 plants. Plenty of time left for October competition tomatoes. Good thing Gale Woods has a good payout for maters this year. It is looking like I will have about 1200 sq ft of garden space available.

Sorry about that Bob,,:( I'm talking to my oldest boy now, golf ball sized hail and 60 to 80 mph winds destroyed a neighborhood not far from him.

Chris Stevens went through this a few years back and fully recovered. I hope your able to save some of your plants.

I have been growing long enough to know that mother nature does not always play nice. Two years ago I was hit and still had pumpkins to take to weighoff. I think I lost my highest chance for personal best this year, but upon evaluating the pumpkins still have a chance at cumulative personal best. I am guessing 2 to 3 out of four plants will make some type of recovery. Not as good as before but still something to take to a weighoff. What makes it tolerable..I like growing tomato plants..now I will focus more on them and see what I can get for a mater by october. I can start a seed today and still be competitive.

thanks pete, I think I have enough to keep me busy this summer depending on germination rate. The rarest seed for me to replace is the 7.33 Hunt. Soaked my last one today but on the bright side...of the plants that were hit with hail the one I had growing has highest chance of survival (It at least has a leaf left on it). I am not sure what potential there is for size with these late starts but should be able to increase my genetic pool.

I had alot of trouble gerinateing that seed lol i have a couple in secret squirl vault i dont think theres many of them lefti know pgil hunt is out of them from a older post!!!!

It was a storm i won't forget for awhile. The suburb just to the west of brought out the snow plows to clear the streets. Do a search of Coon Rapids hail. There is some good video out there of it. In my garden...i think the 7.33 Hunt and 7.19 LaRue will survive..the rest of the tomatoes are not looking hopeful. I think I will be pulling two of my pumpkin plants. Looking them over tonight..I dont think either of them have an intact leaf stem. I know that I could probably recover some even though all I have left of the plant is a little vine and some roots, but I am thinking a better use of the space and my time is to plant many new tomato plants around the perimeter, and concentrate on setting up the patch for next year. Of course, I could change my mind if Qtip would allow me to bring a front-end loader to his house and transplant that little 2145 he has growing....
