I just posted some photos on my diary, hopefully they post soon. Having some issues with leaves and need some mater opinions on if I have disease and what it is, so how to treat it. I am new to maters, experienced with pumpkins for a long time, so this is not my expert area. My son is helping and we really don't want to loose our maters. Any help is appreciated when the photos download. Thanks, Jim

Too wet?...just a guess...seems early for blight...other than that soil ph ok?

The white things are not bugs, plants were merit drenched, soil ph is 7 to 7.5, been watering with 6.0 ph water.

Adjusted to 6.0.?...ph fluctuation will cause that mottling...

Our water ph is 8.2, not good. Good friend used citric acid to lower his water last year to around 6.0, grew a pb over 200 lbs bigger for pumpkin of course.
I am trying it with the maters. Been watering a lof cause it was hot, backing off now. Maybe too much water, not sure.

Maybe try adjusting to 7.0 so you don't have a big swing going on in the soil .....use foliar food for whatever the soil won't release ... Not sure about the soil where you are but in my gardens , but if I compare them to the pumpkin, my materz never get watered...I let them really dry in between waterings...hope that helps...they look really good otherwise

My guess would be early blight as well. Time for fungicide and removal of diseased leaves? And I concur - maybe too much water, so backing off some is a good idea.

University of Minnesota Extension Service suggests that the most effective chemicals for control Early Blight are: Fontelis (Penthiopyrad a.i.), Endura (Boscalid a.i.) and Lance WDG (Boscalid a.i.). If you grow organic, copper-based applications should be fairly effective: Kocide 2000, Champ Formula 2, Nu-Cop 50DF, C-O-C-S WDG.

I have never used any of these myself - anybody else with experience?
