I am thinking I am going to start to keep better track of the tomato growths based on DAP. But then, i started to think about it, when is day 1. Is it the day the flower opens, the first day the pollen drops, or the 1st day that i know for sure that I have a set. If we start to compare growth at different DAP, it would be good if we were all on the same starting time frame.

I am somewhat interested to keep track of it to see if changing light duration and temperature can affect it in a positive way. Colder may make it longer to maturity, but daily growth may be less. I am not sure how light duration will affect it. For long term discussion, I am thinking that we should just be on the same page as far as day 1 determination.

I always think of dap as "day after pollination", so when I viably see pollen falling or vibrate with a toothbrush, the next day would be 1. But Chris is right. When I see the tomato start to grow I count that as one. It could be two days later. Maybe some pollen fell two days before? It's really hard to get that exact first day down but in general you are in the ball park. Now a megabloom is a different animal to me. Some of the flowers pollinate on one day, some others on a different day. Again, I will count the megabloom as day 1 when I see the first flower start to grow...1 dap.

i often can see the flower pettals go from bright yellow to a pail yellow the day after i pollinate it and that is usually a good sign that it took.
