Porkchop did this sometime during this growing season and gave me an idea and I want to expand on it. I'm sure of others thought of this also. We usually estimate tomato weight by the circumference of one side only, just to have a ballpark mental figure in our minds. They are single, double, triple, ect.. I found that a single 24" circ. is much heavier than an double 24" circ. due to gaps between the tomatoes. Let's say there is a third one on top but you can't get the tape on it so your measurement is missing this one. Like a pumpkin we take more measurements than just the circ. It's a little more work but I think gives a better interpretation of the next big "slammer" prior to weighing. Next year I will measure around the side circ., then the circ. from the stem and around to give a total. I posted an example on my diary today but it is not up yet. For example today, I measured sc 21.5" x ss 19.25" = 40.75" total with sc being side circ. and ss being stem side. Or circ" + circ" = total". So, C2=total" or C2=40.75" What are your thoughts. Rick

We are developping since 3/4 years now, a chart based on the 3 dimensions to estimate the weight. It works well.
SEAMSFASTER, could you publish the chart, you made with all the datas please ? Tks !

Here is another idea. Take a large container. Fill it full of water. Submerse the tomato in the water. Take the amount of water displaced and convert the volume to pounds. Should work well as tomato weight is pretty much the water etc within. All that is needed now is to design the container.

I can't imagine a container Marv, many megablooms has short and/or curve stems or very close to the mainvine or branches, not very handy.

I can't wait for the +20% to chart tomatoes! They would have to weigh at least 1 lb over chart for that. I'm sure a chart would be used eventually. Officially nutz..we all are to some degree.
