The last pre-cut watermelon that I purchased at Walmart and Krogers has been hard. Almost impossible to chew! So I bought more one week later...same thing!!! I LOVE watermelon!!! I can't even chew the pieces. I chose the last box of cut pieces by color and texture and it was hard too! Pleeeease tell me that all the genetics are NOT causing this!!! What's happening with wonderful, sweet, soft, but crunchy watermelon?!!! Gotta have my watermelon ❣️

Alot of watermelons this time of year are shipped from the southern hemisphere. They have to try to time it where they ripped during shipping and pick them early and let them ripped during shipping.

The store bought melons can be junk sometimes. They are shipped from far away kept in constant cold storage, also they have been bred to be extremely tough to handle shipping conditions. Jlindley has a great point too, they pick them before they are fully ripe. So many factors that could contribute to a poor tasting melon. I have been disappointed lately with the cantaloupes I have bought at the supermarket.

Dang right Chris !
I’ve got a seedless variety called “millionaire”.
One of the sweetest watermelons I’ve ever grown.

The rind looks like dark green tree bark. The ones I grew we're super sweet. Supposed to have the strongest rind of any melon.

I ate watermelon 4 times while I was in Thailand a few weeks ago and each time the melon was extra sweet and good. I don't think they have any off season in that part of the world.
