Pumpkin growers use a strategy to assure a high percentage of nutrients go to the fruit rather than to the vegetative parts of the plant. Do melon growers use any particular strategy to increase the nutrient sink for the fruit?

Only 2 minor things I can think of is limiting plant size and culling extra fruit ASAP.

I remember reading an article, I believe it was Bill Neptune or Bill Edwards. (I can't remember) They were using vine patterns like you would for a pumpkin. I know Chris Kent doesn't do it and he seems to have pretty good instincts with growing giants..
