heat lot's of heat 90-130 is perfect with direct sunlight and a sandy soil. water in the morning and avoid misting. p.s. they like very little water to begin with. 15'x15' is more than enough room for each. use carolina cross seeds. after that it's the same as pumpkin's. any question's just email me.

i heard they like water. They like water all around the plant, they have shallow roots and like the water. They do like light soil

I'm with Gordon... GO UTES!

How about soil pH? I can never get watermelons to grow in my highly alkaline soil.

they say they like it a little acidic around 6 but my soil is 7.6 ph and they grow fine here.

my first year for big one's but have been growing sugarbaby's since i was 12. so 18 year's or so which are suppose to only go 5-8 lbs mine all go 12-20lbs. grew 450 this year. my carolina cross only went 80lbs but i never really took care of it. i should easily grow one this summer 120-150lbs with a little care.
